What is the added value ASTD’s annual conference brings to participants?

Fyfe-Mills & Sanchez-Cabezudo: We hear – from people all over the world that coming to the conference is one of the single best investments they make in their own professional development. You are given the chance to learn from thought leaders, can take advantage of more education sessions than anywhere else in the world, can meet the vendors and suppliers who provide the cutting edge tools for the field, and network with nearly 10,000 colleagues from around the world.

There is literally nothing like this experience provided by anyone else in the L&D field.

Why should an independent professional or a company representative attend the ASTD conference?

We know that organizations that invest in their L&D function are the ones best prepared to grow strategically, to maximize the potential of their talent, and to meet the demands of global business. Investing in learning is smart. Investing in the people who provide learning to your organization is a smart business decision. Likewise, for independent contractors, you want to make sure that you are knowledgeable and experienced in the latest trends and resources. That sets you apart from other consultants and makes your value proposition to your clients stronger.

What are the objectives of the conference?

The objectives of ASTD 2014 are to provide a rich environment which provides the content, resources, and learning opportunities that empower professionals to develop their knowledge and skills. Attendees not only learn from the 250+ concurrent sessions at the conference, they also network with peers, and interact with today’s thought leaders and innovators.

What are the major trends in corporate training Industry today?

Technology and its impact on training is one of the most important trends. People often think of technology only from the training delivery perspective, like mobile learning or virtual facilitation. These are absolutely major trends. But technology also has the ability to help us be more strategic about training. Big data is a frontier for this profession. Learning how to leverage all the data we collect to make better decisions about what training is delivered and how its delivered, and to who it is delivered, is important to the future of the industry.
