CACHE sponsors Virtual College’s new ‘Working in the Childcare Sector’ Career VOOC®

CACHE (the Council for Awards in Care, Health and Education), is sponsoring the ‘Working in the Childcare Sector’ Career VOOC®. This is one of a suite of 10 Career VOOC®s (Vocational Open Online Courses) being developed by Virtual College.

CACHE is the UK’s only specialist awarding organisation for the children and adult care sectors, with a portfolio of qualifications ranging from Entry to Level 5. Last year, over 150,000 learners registered with CACHE from over 1000 centres. The organization was established in 1994 as a result of the merger of the National Nursery Examination Board (NNEB) and the Council for Early Years Awards (CEYA) and has a heritage dating back to 1945. Since then, CACHE’s qualifications have established a reputation for excellence and have supported many thousands of learners through to further study or employment within the Children and Young People’s Workforce.

Each Career VOOC® is designed to provide career seekers with a free, comprehensive, unbiased insight into working in a particular sector.

Using the latest technology, including a range of multimedia tools relevant to the new generation of digital natives, they will provide users with an introduction to key job roles, skills requirements and career progress routes.

They will have access to a range of Career VOOC®s in an exciting virtual environment where they can explore career opportunities and what various job roles entail.

This Career VOOC®, sponsored by CACHE, focuses on careers guidance for the childcare sector. Nick Cutland, CEO at CACHE, commented: “As the UK’s only specialist awarding organisation for the children and adult care sectors, sponsorship of this resource is particularly appropriate and relevant to CACHE.

“We are excited by the opportunity this provides to help young people improve their understanding of working in this vibrant sector.”

As a user completes a Career VOOC®, they can indicate their level of interest and access enhanced guidance – virtual careers advisor, further training opportunities, work experience and volunteering ideas.

The VOOC® will also signpost local and national providers of skills development routes, including short courses, traineeships, apprenticeships and degrees.

Julie Hyde, CACHE’s Executive Director of Business Development, said: ”Last year, we had over 150,000 learners registered and this sponsorship will help to enhance our profile amongst colleges, independent training providers, schools and young people.

”We will also be working with employers in the sector to provide online resources valuable to those researching a career in this sector.”

The ‘Working in the Childcare Sector’ VOOC® will be available from Virtual College and CACHE from September 2014.

Rod Knox, CEO of Virtual College, said: “We are pleased to be working with CACHE on this exciting project, and this key collaboration will help accelerate our 2020 vision of having 20 million learners by 2020."
